Welcome to our new blog feature . . . Harrier Highlight! At the top of each month, we will feature a new Harrier. Same question and answer format each time, with the hope to get to know our members even better!
First up: Meredith FitzPatrick! Meredith is new to the Harriers, and started the season off strong, coming in 1st for our women's group at the Washington Height's 5K. So lets get this started, and get to know a little more about this month's HARRIER HIGHLIGHT.
NAME: Meredith FitzPatrick
OCCUPATION: Social Worker
MONTH/YEAR YOU JOINED THE HARRIERS: October 2015
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE RACE? 5K to 15K range
WHAT PR ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? A 5K at Saratoga State park that I ran in 18:09 during my senior year of college cross country season. My parents were there and there was a long straightaway at the end to the finish-- I felt real good for the kick and won a pie :)
WHAT'S THE MOST REWARDING DRINK AFTER A HARD RACE? Cold beer and if beer is not an option then chocolate milk
IF YOU COULD DO A LONG RUN WITH ANYONE (FICTIONAL OR NON-FICTIONAL), WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? If it were possible- I'd love to go on another long run with my high school assistant XC coach (and math teacher) who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. She was this tiny, little, old, wonderfully strange, ultra marathon runner (so could run for days) who was super smart/wise and was very passionate about running and a great coach. I would love to go on a long run with her to catch up and to pick her brain for running/life advice
WHAT ARE YOUR OTHER HOBBIES BESIDES RUNNING? Because we all have so much time and energy after workouts...
Reading fiction, skiing, walking around different neighborhoods on the weekends.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TO READ WHILE CUDDLING BY THE FIRE?
I don't think I could choose one book and I don't typically reread books but a few books that I've enjoyed recently are: Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, We are all Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Jay Fowler, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon and now I'm reading The Portable Veblen by Elizabeth McKenzie which has been interesting.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE HARRIERS MOMENT?
I loved the quick and tactful responses from Joe, Scott and Sanjiv toward the "digital coach" who accused certain members of the morning workout crew of "failing the squat test" due to "lack of R.O.M" in the video posted to facebook earlier this month. It was awesome to see coaches/teammates jump to stand up for our teammates and call out an individual who was trying to bring us down!!
YOU'RE ABOUT TO START YOUR RUN AND PUT IN YOUR HEADPHONES. WHAT JAM ARE YOU RUNNING TO?
I don't usually run with music :\ but when I'm stuck on a treadmill I will listen to upbeat music by artists like Robyn, The Wombats... and to be honest some guilty pleasure Pop music I listened to before college running races (think: Ke$ha/FloRida/Jason Derulo) and definitely the song Bailando (spanish version) by Enrique which I can't let go of
CLOSING COMMENTS? THIS IS YOUR SOAPBOX MOMENT!
Thanks to everyone (especially the morning workout crew) for welcoming me onto the team! It's been so nice to have people to run with and push me and it feels great to wear the Harriers singlet / see teammates at the start and end of the race : )
