I couldn't let a year go by without me hosting a First Thursday, and when I saw that May's was on Cinco de Mayo, I snatched it right up. When last the two coincided in 2011, exactly *cinco* years ago, I hosted then as well. And because I'm a big fan of consistency, I decided to do in 2016 just what I did before: a salsa-off at Fat Cat in the West Village.
We had a great Harrier turnout -- the energy really is palpable this year! We dominated, as we tend to do, a back corner of the bar, navigated thirsty crowds and fiercely apathetic bartenders, and consumed much salsa. In the second-ever Harrier Salsa-Off, Ray Marquette emerged victorious with his unique, chocolate-infused salsa. Providing him with some fierce competition were Susan Bayat, Toko Morimoto, Joel Schrock, Evi Englert, Margaret Aycock, and myself. All the salsas were delicious and each received votes. Thanks to all the chefs and salsa-eating enthusiasts for another fantastic Harrier evening!
