It was a hot and steamy day for the Bronx Ten Miler -- the weather, sure, but also the blazing heat of the Harriers speeding along through the Bronx. The course is an out-and-back, so as runners zipped along the Grand Concourse there were, at certain points, Hs on both sides, and some "Go Harriers!" yells across the divide. Cold towels waiting in ice were a welcome gift at the finish line!
On the women's side, the Harriers took 7th, with Morgan Lingar, Michelle Hillenbrand, Meredith Fitzpatrick, Jen Gong and Irina Lucaciu scoring. Morgan took 8th and Irina 14th in their age groups!
Meredith may have summarized the experience best for all of them. “This was a hard race for me, but I did my best to try to stay positive and found some energy at the end and am happy with my last mile time, so hooray! Congrats to all of the harriers who ran really well- you go team- we beat the heat!"
On the men's side, the Harriers took 11th (with masters men taking 5th!), with Carl Daucher, Mason Lin, Joseph Billings, Leland Chang, and Justin Perkins scoring. Carl took 7th, Mason 10th, and Leland 11th in their age groups! Great job, Harriers!
In addition to a very strong Bronx debut, Harrier rookie Mason Lin put an exclamation point on the intensity of the team’s effort. "Felt decent -- glutes were trashed the next day ".
Of course, the Bronx 10 mile is about more than just the race, as Schuyler Blackman reminded us all. “Ended up with a high-five from DJ Kool Herc. Overall, pretty successful Sunday.” Word!
