We pride ourselves on being one of the most competitive teams in NYC. In 2016, in the top division (Open A) of the New York Road Runners club points race series, our women’s team ranked 6th out of 14 teams, and our men ranked 9th out of 12 teams. In a community of over 200 running clubs in the NYC and metro area, the New York Harriers are recognized as fierce competitors in the racing scene.
Our members also vie for points in an intra-team competition, the Runner of the Year series, with coveted annual awards that are determined by participation and excellence in these races. Our team race roster is primarily an amalgamation of NYRR races and our own Harriers 5K
At the end of the year, we recognize the accomplishments of our teammates who have pushed themselves and served as model teammates, exemplifying the Harrier spirit. Our awards include:
Runner of the Year: Awarded to the overall top runners in open, masters, and age-group divisions, and is determined by a points system that is based on participation, race placement, and performance within your age group at a particular race. You must have competed in a minimum of 5 team points races to be considered for these awards.
H Award: Awarded to runners who have participated in at least 7 team points races and have earned 90 points during the year.
Coaches Award: Recognizes the model teammate who inspires other runners and actively contributes to the team.
Most Improved: As indicated, recognizes the most improved runner of the year.
Rookie of the Year: Awards new Harriers who have made significant contributions to the team.
