Brooklyn Half Marathon Recap

Once again the weather did not stop the New York Harriers from waking up very early and coming out on a rainy Saturday morning to brave the conditions for the Popular Brooklyn Half Marathon. An impressive 79 Harriers raced through hilly Prospect Park and down never ending Ocean Parkway to Coney Island.

The women's team took 7th place with Caroline Willian, Morgan Lingar, Meredith FitzPatrick, Michelle Hillrnbrand and Jill Prentice scoring. While the men's team took 10th place with Simone Morabito, Carl Daucher, Mitch Boucher, Scott Bartucca and Patrick Jaglieski scoring. The men's masters took 4th place!

The conditions proved to be favorable for some Harriers especially those who PR’d, such as Morgan Lingar, Meredith FitzPatrick, Matthew Lynch, Steve Bowker, Eduardo Branado and Erin Keenan and all the others that were PR’d. Also, congrats to Mitch Boucher on racing his first half marathon. We hope it will be the first of many.

Veteran Harrier Kate Dorman had a 3+ minute course PR and was able to come within a minute of her recent half marathon PR from December. She credits her ability to retain her fitness to the coaching staff/training plan, post workout beers and the encouragement and comradery of the Harriers.

Given the cold and wet conditions, Eduardo Branado started out the race conservatively with the intention of hitting negative splits during the race. Using the pace group, he was able to find his stride about halfway through the race and pick up the race on Ocean Parkway to score another PR this season.

Lastly, kudos to Susan Bayat and Vera Kuipers from coming out and cheering on Ocean Parkway.

Let’s keep the momentum going into the Queens 10K and Team Champs. Happy Running.
