Team Championships Recap
Congratulations to all 69 Harriers that came out in the heat and humidity to Rock the H for the Team Championship race on July 28th, 2018.
The women's team took 6th place, the men's team took 13th place and the men's masters also took 6th place. Despite the unfavorable hot, sticky and humid conditions, several Harriers including Morgan Lingar, Tara Jarvis, Alex Chuchu and Michelle Hillenbrand, were able to hit a PR! Congrats to Scott Bartucca and Caroline Willian for being the top male and female finishers for the team this year.
Team Champs is the only race where the top 10 finishers for the men and women score for each team, so it enables each team to display their depth beyond the normal top 5 in all the other club races. It allows runners who don’t usually score to be able to make a difference in the team standings. Some of the first-time scorers this year include David Shotts, Eduardo Brandao, Tara Jarvis, Mirjam Lablans, and Hannah Graffeo.
Long-time Harrier and veteran Susan Bayat said "The Harriers Speed work was finally kicking in for me. I placed 9th overall female & 4th in age group…The strength training and Wednesday speed with Harriers is paying off.”
Team Champs isn’t just about competing, but about camaraderie as well. Since the men and women race separately, it allows for large cheering sections for each race. A big thank you to everyone who came out to cheer everyone on. We all look forward to seeing the cheering section towards the end of the race for that extra bit of energy. Harrier veteran Joe Arencibia said “…this was the loudest cheering section I can remember…”
Lastly, a big thank you to everyone who was able to come to the picnic after the race and for bringing delicious treats and beverages.
