Queens 10K Race Recap
On June 15, 2019, over 11,800 runners, including 51 members of the New York Harriers, ventured out to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for the Queens 10K, which is the 4th team points race of the year. It was a sunny morning with the race temperature at 61 degrees and 56% humidity, which is favored by some but not all runners. The race course is mostly flat and fast, but includes multiple turns, loops and out-and-backs.
The women's team took 6th place with Morgan Lingar, Michelle Hillenbrand, Mirjam Lablans, Larua Kelly and Hannah Graffeo scoring. While the men's team took 10th place with Joseph Billings, Scott Bartucca, Zach Pollock, David Kennedy and Justin Perkins and scoring. The men's masters took 8th place and Mirjam Lablans placed 3rd overall in her age group!
Several Harriers including Joseph Billings had good race. He commented “It was a good day to go fast! Had a little trouble getting out in the beginning and just getting to the start line from home lol but it is always worth it to be able to rock the H with the team!" In addition, Justin Perkins, Gary Frankland and Laura Peterson scored a PR at the race.
We were also able to catch up with John Crowley after the race. He was "Delighted to get in another race this year, after some injuries causing inconsistent training this past year! The race itself was challenging and I was probably a bit too optimistic in the first miles and had to slow down due to heat. This was an emotional race as last as a Harrier living in NYC (moving to Providence next week). It was awesome being a Harrier these past couple of years. I will be back soon for training and races in the very near future! "
The Harriers now turn their focus to increasing speed for the 5-mile Pride Run and Team Championships at the end of July.
