Annual Mile & Donut Relay

About the Events

Each year, the New York Harriers host a local competitive race in New York City, inviting our running community and fellow New York teams to compete. Our most recent iterations have included both a 1-mile track race and our notorious 1-mile Donut Relay. See more details below on past and upcoming events.

The Mile

Run in multiple heats, the Harrier Mile takes place on the East River Track and allows runners of all ages and abilities to push themselves to their greatest limit. Official timing and professional photography available during qualified years.

The Donut Relay

The Donut Relay is run in teams of 4. The race begin with the first competitor consuming a donut and then racing 400 meters on the track. Once done, they tag their next teammate, who takes on their own donut and lap. The race continues until all four runners have finished their donuts and 400 meter loops.

Whether pushing for your fastest mile or your speediest donut-eating, the Harrier Mile is a day of community building and competition that can’t be missed!

 FAQs & Race Guidelines

  • Yes, the fee is determined by the costs of the event. The mile registration fee is $25 per person and the donut relay is $20 per team.

  • Yes, we will provide awards to overall and age-group winners for the Harrier Mile as well as team awards to Women’s, Men’s and Mixed relay teams. Additional prizes for creativity may also be awarded.

  • We provide yeast donuts for the relay and are able to provide vegan and/or gluten free options as necessary. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions before the race by reaching out to info@newyorkharriers.com.

  • You may run on multiple relay teams, but you have to race a 400m for each one. You CANNOT reuse the same run (or donut… ew) for more than one team. So if you’re on three teams, you’re running three different 400 meters and eating three different donuts, you crazy running-and-donut-consuming machine.

  • Each member of the relay team will eat one donut and run one quarter mile or 400 meters on the track. The donut must be fully consumed and swallowed before the lap has begun. Competitors are allowed a cup of water with their donut. All competitors will eat a regular-sized donut.

  • Past results from 2020 and 2019 are available on the links provided.
